Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2023

At the beginning of 2023, in the dark and cold, I started new work. I found myself shocked and staring at images of Ukrainian refugees, particularly displaced mothers and children.  At the same time I had begun to explore boxes of photos of my own childhood; happy, tranquil memories. I painted from these diverse images, quite different from my usual abstract work.

The theme this year for the RA summer exhibition was ‘Only Connect’ inspired by a quote from the novel Howards End by E. M. Forster and co-ordinated by artist David Remfry RA.

Inspired, I entered and was so happy that my oil painting ‘‘We’ve never met, but…’ was selected, sold, and currently hanging at the RA until 20.8.23. It’s in room Gallery IX, (number 1364), currated by the wonderful artist Eileen Cooper, who said in an interview I hear ‘I like work with, I like work with personality’. Thank you Eileen, I’ll take that!!
